An
“Arty” Find
When
Mike was cleaning up his workshop a couple of weeks ago he found an
old print of a painting that we must have had for a long time.
Neither of us could remember where we had got it from. Did someone
give it to us? Did we find it or buy it? I don't think we bought it
although Mike really likes this painting. We probably picked it up at
a garage sale somewhere.
Mike
decided to renovate it and instead of leaving it in a dusty box in
the workshop he would clean it ( carefully) and make a frame for it
which he did. Then he has hung it up on the wall so we can now see
itand enjoy it.
Meanwhile
I checked on the artist ,Antoine Blanchard. He was born in 1910 and
died in 1988, He studied at the
Ecole des Beaux-Arts
in Paris and had many life style changes , which did not allow him to
always be an artist as he wished . When he returned to painting full
time he became discouraged at the modern art forms and so went back
to studying the older style of painting, the Belle
Époque period in Paris.
His paintings were based on locations around Paris in the 1890s and
often took him days and even months to finish. He was a very
meticulous artist. His paintings have definitely a certain style and
he loved to make shimmering scenes full of bright colors and light.
So we
feel lucky to have a such a lovely painting on our wall even if it is
only a copy.
