The
Curiosity by Stephen Kiernan
This
is one of those books you pick up to read that is hard to put down.
It is a scientific mystery which has romance and deep thinking built
into it.It makes you think of all kinds of things while you are
reading it.
The
plot is very different from any that I have ever read before.A
scientific team led by a skillful and devoted scientist Dr Kate
Philo leads a team to discover organic subjects found in the deep
frozen ice of the arctic. They find a man in deep freeze and bring
him back to Boston to unfreeze him. They intend to reanimate him using techniques they have
used before to bring back to life small sea creatures like krill .
Dr
Kate is assigned by the egotistical leader of the experiment, Dr
Erastus
Carthage
to oversee this reanimation of the man who it turns out has been dead
for more than a century. The man Jeremiah turns out to be a former
judge , a man of intelligence and skill who came from a small town
near Boston.
Unfortunately
Dr Kate and Dr Erastus have different ideas on how this should be
done and she rejects the idea of keeping the judge like a scientist
specimen. She gradually falls in love with her subject and decides
she will not let him become the object of the media circus and means
of fame that Dr Erastus Carthage envisages.
You can't guess how this
ends.
This
was a good read . One I really enjoyed.
